“TAKING ACTION ON COMMUNITY TRENDS” T.A.C.T. broadens the role of the Police Department in the community and the role of the community in the Police Department. Consequently, this exposes us to issues which have traditionally been considered outside the realm of "official police intervention." This approach is akin to preventive medicine. Citizens and police personnel must strive to place more emphasis on preventing the disease, the causes of crime, than reacting or responding to the symptoms. To do this, the police and the citizens share the responsibility for controlling the conditions that influence crime. The Zephyrhills Police Department has maintained a long history of using “Community Oriented Policing” style concepts within its patrol operations. This approach intends to re-emphasize these concepts in its patrol in order to re-gain territories lost to criminal elements and establish these areas as vital parts of our city for the enjoyment of law abiding, responsible citizens of that community. T.A.C.T. officers and citizens work together through a consultation process to identify crime and non-crime problems. Prevention and resolution of these problems is achieved through adaptation of police methods and mobilization of resources from both the community and the Police Department. The T.A.C.T. officer will work closely with the City’s Code Enforcement department, Criminal Investigators and residents of that area. The Zephyrhills Police Department will begin this interactive approach on Monday April 20, 2009. The T.A.C.T. Officer is assigned to the Special Operations Section of the Police Department and will be supervised by the Operations Captain. We are looking forward to working with the residents of our community to address those immediate concerns affecting the “quality of life” issues within our neighborhoods. For more information call: Captain Jeff McDougal (813) 780-0050 . you may contact the Zephyrhills Police Department Crime Line at 1-866-541-2427 to notify ZPD of your concern.
