FLUORESCENT LAMP RECYCLING
Fluorescent lamps contain mercury, if broken; the mercury can dissipate into the environment. Mercury is a very toxic element that accumulates in body tissues. At certain levels, Mercury tends to adversely harm the nervous system particularly in children.
Florida law prohibits fluorescent lamps from being placed into the solid waste stream.
Fluorescent lamps also contain aluminum, glass and phosphorous, all of these items can be recycled. The City of Zephyrhills partners with Pasco County for fluorescent lamp recycling.
